On July 27, the Opening of the 11th Summer Camp of Soong Ching Ling Scholarship & the Awards Ceremony was held in Soong Ching Ling Memorial Residence in Shanghai. Over 100 representatives of the scholarship winners and teachers from 29 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government, as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps gathered in Shanghai. The leaders concerned from the Ministry of Education, CWI and China Soong Ching Ling Foundation attended the camp opening ceremony and presented awards to the representatives of the scholarship winners.

Soong Ching Ling Scholarship is the only state-level scholarship established by the Ministry of Education, CWI and China Soong Ching Ling Foundation for primary and middle school students during the period of compulsory education. To date, there are 9,682 primary and middle school students excellent both in conduct and learning who have won the Scholarship. Consistently adhering to the evaluation standard of“regarding morality as foremost”, the Scholarship is aimed at finding the typical models of teens and children of the time who have achieved an all-sided development in being patriotic, willing to help others and concerning the society, advocating science, being bold to explore, growing in adversity and learning diligently and assiduously, so as to set role models for youngsters and children to learn from.

The 11th Soong Ching Ling Scholarship possessed a total of 1,543 winners, among whom 252 were minority students from 32 ethnic groups including the Zang, Hui, Uygur and Zhuang Nationalities, accounting for 16.3 % of the winning population. The stories of the scholarship winners have mirrored the collective image of the contemporary teens and children as a combination of the noble character of being patriotic, benefiting people and an upright mind and great ambitions , the high morale characterized by assiduity and striving for knowledge, the enterprising spirit of self-fulfillment in adversity and tenacious self-improvement, the consciousness of being a master that bears concern about the society and the causes of public service, as well as the good potential qualities of advocating science and being versatile. The paths they have covered in their growth have set up amiable examples deserving learning for teens and children.

As one of the summer vacation theme activities "Dandelion Wishes make Dreams Come True" initiated by the Ministry of Education, the 11th Summer Camp of Soong Ching Ling Scholarship, taking "Role Models for Growth: Flying Dandelions" as the theme, brings forth a series of diverse theme activities. The representatives of the scholarship winners visited some practice spots for human culture and science popularization, such as Soong Ching Ling Memorial Residence in Shanghai, Polar-Science Popularization Museum of Polar Research Institute of China and Shanghai Science and Technology Museum; meanwhile, they also participated in some activities of the 2014 Shanghai International Children's Cultural & Art Festival, where they had a joyous gathering with the children from abroad and at home, showing the mien of Chinese youngsters and building a bridge of friendship through mutual communication.
