China Welfare Institute Delegation Meets with Mrs. Carrie Lam (Hong Kong Chief Executive), Mr. Wang Zhimin (Director of LOCPG) and Mr. Tung Chee-hwa (Vice-chairman of the 13th CPPCC National Committee)
In celebration of the 80th anniversary of the China Welfare Institute (the CWI), Mr. Wang Jiarui, Vice Chairman of the 12th National Committee of the CPPCC and Chairman of the CWI, led a delegation group of the CWI to head for Hong Kong, the birthplace of the CWI, with the mission to seek its roots and conduct exchanges.


On the afternoon of November 28, Mr. Wang Jiarui met with Mrs. Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR. Mr. Hu Jinjun, Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department of the CPC Shanghai Committee, Mr. Zhang Xiaomin, Vice chairman, Party Secretary and Secretary-general of the CWI, as well as the executives of some divisions and grass-root units of the CWI were also present. Mr. Wang briefed Mrs. Carrie Lam on the founding history and development of the CWI plus its achievements in the fields of school and after-school education, youth culture, social welfare and more. Mrs. Carrie Lam congratulated the CWI for its 80th Anniversary. She described the efforts made by the Hong Kong SAR Government including increasing the investments on people's livelihood and promoting cooperation in education and culture between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland. She also extended her appreciation to the CWI for its efforts in facilitating the cultural exchanges between the children of both sides. Mrs. Carrie Lam said that she would actively encourage the top youth art groups of Hong Kong to get on board in order to facilitate the exchanges and interaction between the younger generations from both sides.


On the evening of November 28, Mr. Wang Jiarui and his delegation group paid a visit to Mr. Wang Zhimin, Director of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government (LOCPG) in the Hong Kong SAR. Mr. He Jing, Deputy Director of LOCPG, also attended the session. Mr. Wang Zhimin extended a warm greeting to Mr. Wang Jiarui and his delegation members, expressed his appreciation to the CWI for its great support for the social welfare cause of Hong Kong, and wished this roots-seeking visit a complete success. Mr. Wang Zhimin said that the CWI has long been contributing to the social welfare cause of Hong Kong by leveraging its advantages in historical origin in response to the national strategies. According to him, this roots-seeking visit to Hong Kong on the occasion of its 80th anniversary is highly instrumental in further deepening the exchanges between the social welfare sectors of both sides. He hoped that the CWI would make incessant efforts to further exchanges and cooperation with the social welfare institutions in Hong Kong, serving as a new platform for communications between the social welfare institutions in both Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.
Mr. Wang Jiarui stated that, over the past 80 years since it was founded, the CWI has remained dedicated to its mission of serving women and children whole-heartedly, and it has played a unique role in promoting the welfare of women and children, facilitating the reunification of China and safeguarding global peace and development. The CWI will continue to leverage its own resources to promote communication and cooperation in public services between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, and to invite the social welfare service institutions of Hong Kong to the Chinese Mainland for surveys and exchanges. He hoped that Hong Kong LOCPG would continue to offer support and assistance in this regard.


On the afternoon of November 30, Mr. Wang Jiarui and his delegation group paid a courtesy call on Mr. Tung Chee-hwa, Vice-chairman of the 13th CPPCC National Committee and former Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR.
WANG Jiarui briefed Mr. Tung Chee-hwa on all the activities of the CWI and the delegation group in this Hong Kong tour. He believed that this visit to Hong Kong, through a wealth of activities, enabled the CWI to gain more influence in Hong Kong, deepen the friendship with old friends, and engage many new friends in the cause of the CWI. Mr. Wang Jiarui also expressed his hope that Mr. Tung continue to support and care for the cause of the CWI and further help drive the communication and cooperation between the CWI and the sectors of education and social welfare of Hong Kong.


Mr Tung Chee-hwa praised the development of the CWI, and introduced to the present guests the current situation of the sectors of education and social welfare in Hong Kong. He hoped that the CWI would continue to play an active role in promoting communications between students and teachers on both sides. Following the meeting, two kids from the Little Companion Art Troupe of the CWI gifted Grandpa Tung with their calligraphy works entitled “Bond” implying the close bond between the CWI and Hong Kong.
