| The 7th International Art Festival of Soong Ching Ling School Held at Shanghai Grand Theater |
| |
On the evening of May 19, the 7th International Art Festival of Soong Ching Ling School was held at Shanghai Grand Theater. Over 670 children from 20 countries and regions participated in this meaningful event that combined the East and the West.
Open and Diversified Cultural Inheritance Soong Ching Ling School is an international school founded by Chinese people, so its art festival is full of Chinese flavor. During the festival, Chinese folk music, Kunqu opera, Suzhou Pingtan, Yue opera and Chinese folk dance were put on the stage successively. The students' understanding of Chinese culture was demonstrated through the form of art. But the inheritance of Chinese traditional culture doesn't mean seclusion or exclusion. It can also be open and diversified. At the art festival, the students performed a traditional Hawaii Chant. The deep and low "I Ku mau mau" was like sea breezes blowing from the other end of the Pacific, and the students were like sailors cutting through the waves in the ocean. Through the performance they had a good experience of foreign traditional culture. Only by taking root in China can we have the stage to dialogue with the world. Only by exposing ourselves to the diversity and colorfulness of the world can we have better knowledge of and be better nourished by the wisdom and emotion of the Chinese nation.
An Unprecedented "Show of Love" In addition to continuing the tradition of carrying forward the Chinese culture, the art festival took an innovative move this year. For the first time children from different grades joined hands to work on a large stage play. 360 children from 15 classes covering grade 1-5 cooperated and performed a 52-minute stage play named An Unforgettable Birthday. Taking a boy's birthday party as the main line, this play unfolded a story of love and thanksgiving. During the performance, the children felt the generous love of their parents, and learnt to be grateful to their parents and to help more people.
Soong Ching Ling School takes "education of love" as its core philosophy in the hope that it can teach the students to love themselves, their families, their countries, and everything else, and ultimately enter into a realm of "love for all", where they will be empathetic, generous, broad-minded and open-hearted towards the world, and be committed to creating a better future world. The children who grow up in love are able to go farther in the company of love. This is precisely the theme of the art festival “Love leads you farther.”
Respect and Appreciate Each Child, Let Their Dreams Blossom After carefully checking the program list of the art festival, you will notice that each and every grade and class was involved. During the curtain call, all the children went on the stage to greet the audience. "Do not leave any child behind, let every child be a part and respect each of them." This is what the art festival keeps to all the time.
What was not shown on the stage is the sound of reading that could be heard every morning in the campus, the scene when children ran and played on the playground during class breaks, the scene of children learning earnestly in class, and the 50-day football championship with 18 teams and 49 matches that went through the entire spring side by side with the rehearsal of the art festival. During the preparation of the festival, children's learning, sports, games and other activities were still being carried out in an orderly manner.
At the opening ceremony of the 7th art festival, all the students were singing the school song. Part of the lyrics goes, "We gather in Spring, and set out under the sunshine; Madam Soong Ching Ling sowed the seeds of love that made our dreams blossom." With teachers’ respect and appreciation of each child, their dreams will come true one day. |
