| Soong Ching Ling Kindergarten Held Its 14th International Art Festival |
| |
On the evening of May 18, the 14th International Children's Art Festival themed "Voice of Children" was held by Soong Ching Ling Kindergarten at Shanghai Grand Theater.656 Chinese and foreign 3-6 year olds from 45 countries and regions went on the stage of this national art venue and gave various forms of art performances, including dance, musical and chorus, to demonstrate the eternal charm of childhood and show to their families, friends and teachers their infinite love and craving for the world and the life.
Madam Soong Ching Ling said in her essay May the Saplings Grow Healthily:“Children should have healthy artistic accomplishments and a good taste for literature and art. Things like elegant music, art and literature can play an important role in cultivating children's temperament, helping children to resist those unhealthy and harmful things and develop beautiful and noble sentiments.”
May is the art month for Soong Ching Ling Kindergarten every year. For the children, the process of preparing for the art festival is actually more of a way to interact with art and to create art.Senior class children acted as small journalists to interview teachers and kids from different classes to get to know the theme of each performance before they designed an interesting program list by themselves. And they organized a charity bazaar in the campus to collect money to buy Children's Day gifts for those immigrant workers' kids from nearby kindergartens.Middle class children observed and learnt from the masterpieces of famous artists, and paid tribute to them by drawing paintings and organizing an exhibition of their own works. Junior class children walked into theaters to see what the theater was like and get to know those people working on or behind the stage.
This is a joyful process that every child in Soong Ching Ling Kindergarten will experience! The kindergarten believes that art has no border and every kid has the ability to express their thoughts by means of art. On the stage of the grand theater, the children not only enjoyed the joy of success brought to them by their hard work, but also learnt to observe and think, to be inclusive and cooperative, to be appreciative and grateful.
