2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and of the establishment of International Children’s Day. On May 31, the “I Grow Up with My Motherland” Theme Show for International Children’s Day in 2019 jointly sponsored by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation CSCLF, China Welfare Institute CWI and National Centre for the Performing Arts of China NCPA kicked off in the Opera House of NCPA to present a thoughtful, warm, meaningful and wonderful festival gift to children.
In the event, CSCLF’s, CWI’s and NCPA’s characteristics and advantages in working with children were fully utilized to perform this fundamental task of “strengthening moral education and cultivating people”, grasp the pulse of the times, eulogize the thematic melody of the times, and promote the spirit of the times. The theme show included the Preface—Our Festival, the Home—Grow Up Happily, the Country—Assume Our Responsibilities, the World—Dream of Science & Technology and the End—I Love You China, showing children’s growing stories and ideal pursuits in home, campus, natural and other environments. There were dialogue, time travel and other forms of outreach performances, reflecting the changes of the times with children’s changes. The imprints of times, including the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the 70th anniversary of the establishment of International Children's Day, and the “Belt and Road”, were organically integrated in those scene performances to form subtle influence and edutainment for children and inspire children to grow up with our motherland.
At 7: 30 p.m. of that day, “I Grow Up with My Motherland” Theme Show started with classic children’s songs in all ages. Children were smiling when listening to historical songs of their own ages, while adults who have grown up with our motherland were thinking of their funny childhood stories. Children’s loud and clear singing has aroused, arouses and will arouse empathy and resonance.
This show breaks through traditional forms of celebration activities for Children’s Day and reflects some functionality and a sense of mission. The stage and schedule were designed ingeniously, and some drama was integrated into performance creation and arrangement. The stage was delivered to children to control so that they would learn to think when having fun, assume their own responsibility when thinking, and develop the awareness and behavior of “loving the motherland, caring environment, developing unity and friendship and cherishing peace” when assuming their own responsibility. This platform enables children to express their love for the motherland with arts and reflect the prosperity of the motherland and the happy life of people with pure smiles and sincere feelings.
