“Little Companion Art Troupe”of the CWI Children's Palace Staged a Wonderful Performance at the 30th Anniversary of the Sister-city Relationship between Montreal and Shanghai
On November 3rd, a joint event was held to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Montreal and Shanghai. Yang Xiong, Mayor of Shanghai and Denis Coderre, Mayor of Montreal, Canada and guests from home and abroad watched the performance brought by nearly 60 little actors from Little Companion Art Troupe ofCWI Children's Palace. With sweet smiles on their faces, the children presented a splendid show for the audience by their great acting skills. Their performance has manifested the unique charm and function of the “name card of Shanghai”.

With the beautiful music, the dance “Jasmine” performed by little companions declared the opening of the performance. Children danced happily to the music with national flags of two countries in their hands which looked like the blossoms of jasmine with pleasant fragrance. Little companions wearing Chinese and Canadian costumesset a white dove flying with their hands meaning the friendship between people of two countriesstep to a newlevel. After that,the Little Companion Art Troupe presented one of its repertoire–Jiangnan Fengyun (Charm of the South of Yangtze River) by combining the performance offolk music, calligraphy and paper cuts.With erhu, flute and koto played together, the little calligraphy performer wrote 30 “yuan’’(a Chinese character meaning relationship) to express the best wishes for the 30-year friendship of two cities, and the paper cuts child performer cut the images of magpie and plum blossoms to imply the meaning of delightful gathering.At the end of their performance, the two little performers gave their works to the two mayors as presents, and both of the majors praised their wonderful work and their performing talents as they accepted the presents.All the audience gave these children a round of applause.



Afterwards, little companions performed flute solo “My Heart Will Go On” and piano and violin ensemble “Schindler's List” to show the audience the enchantment of both Eastern and Western music. The chorus performed “For Beautiful Planet” with deep feeling to express the best wishes for mother earth. Children from Canada also brought excellent performances such as lute solo and chorus. At the end of the event, children from China and Canada sang Canadian folk song “Red River Valley” with their hands hold together which has pushed the atmosphere to the climax. Mayor Yang Xiong and Mayor Denis Coderre joined these little actors gleefully, shaken hands and took photos with them and complimented them repeatedly saying “Your performances are very great!”



It is great honor for LittleCompanion Art Troupe to participate in this event and it is an unforgettable experience for them to learn and practice. LittleCompanion Art Troupe will continue to make persistent efforts and perform on better stages in the future!
