Good Wishes from “Little Champion” to the Opening of Milan Expo Shanghai Week
The splendid Shanghai Week was welcomed on June 9 in Milan Expo. Five young artists from the Folk Music Orchestra and Calligraphy Society of the Little Companion Art Troupe of the CWI Children's Palace gave a brilliant performance on the stage of the opening ceremony of Shanghai Week of the Milan Expo. As a “name card” of Shanghai, they showed global audience the essence of the Chinese culture and sent their sincere and best wishes to the Expo.

The Little Companion Art Troupe was the only performing team made up of teenage members in this event among all art troupes from Shanghai. The young artists known as the “Three Brilliant Girls of New Folk Music” performed a tune called “The Charm of Southern China” in an ensemble of erhu, flute and Chinese zither accompanied by a live performance of traditional Chinese calligraphy and paper cutting, as well as a multimedia video of Chinese ink paintings, which brought a touch of modernity to the classical style of the show.

Short as the performance was, it produced spectacular effects. When the musician sat “in the air” playing her erhu with ease, the audience couldn’t help applauding and exclaiming for this “magical scene”. The young performer Cui Shuning wrote a Chinese character “Yuan” (meaning the lucky chance that brings people together) in Chinese calligraphy. With bold and unconstrained gestures and powerful and vigorous strokes, the performance won acclaims from the audience. Young performer He Xinyan adeptly cut out a magpie and the plum blossom in paper to the music, to express best wishes from China to the Expo and celebrate the happy gathering between China and the world. The performance by the children from the Little Champion Art Troupe received warm welcome from audiences around the world. After the show, foreign friends scrambled to take pictures with the little artists.
Through hard work the young performers from the CWI Children's Palace brought honor to the troupe, to Shanghai, and to the motherland, and also paid tribute to the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Little Champion Art Troupe.
