Li Junliang A Music Genius

The Gifted Class in Soong Ching Ling School is the one that Ms. Feng Lirong, President of the school, always praises highly of while Li Junliang is among the most outstanding students in the class.

The exceptional gift of Li Junliang in music was not discovered until he studied diversified programs in the school in 3rd Grade. From then on, he took the first step on a path to be a pianist. After a year and a half, he participated in the 2012 "Liszt Award" Hong Kong-International Piano Open Competition for the first time and won the 2nd Prize of the children's group. He also amazed people during the school’s International Art Festival in 2013 when he played piano for the Ode to the Yellow River and won nothing but the thumbs-up of all experts on site. He was scouted out by Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing when he was a 5th Grader. Thanks to such an opportunity for being trained as professional pianist, Li Junliang shows his surprising strength in music composition. Since then, he spent half of the year in studying majors in Beijing and another half in Shanghai for the learning of other subjects in ordinary schools. Li Junliang achieved “outstanding” results in all basic subjects for his final exams.

Just as every coin has two sides, Li Junliang exhibited poor social skills and was having problems in people communication and emotional expression. He was a little solitary in the crowd and did not associate with his classmates quite often. Hence the class teacher put more efforts into Li Junliang’s interaction with others.

Soccer, as a popular sport in the school, also attracted Li Junliang who rarely showed interest in sports. However, he was weak in sport activities as he was not a fast runner and was with limited flexibility and poor coordination. Therefore, his teammates assigned him to be a goal-keeper, which made him rather happy. Once in goalkeeping, a classmate kicked in the hand of Li Junliang accidentally. Luckily for him, there was no severe damage caused to the hand. The class teacher talked with the children after the event that everybody should give special care to Junliang’s hands as they belong to a future pianist. The children echoed with teacher’s words. They took initiative to protect Junliang's hands in the activities and no longer asked him to be the goal-keeper. As Junliang was not a fast runner, the teammates asked him to be a defender when playing soccer. Even when everyone was cleaning the classroom, Junliang was relieved from carrying heavy load. Junliang, who was like a little hedgehog getting angry easily before, became calmer thanks to kindness shown by his friends. Even it was quite tough to study both in Beijing and Shanghai, he never took his mother’s advice on transferring to another school. By keeping contact with teachers online, he scored in the highest bracket all along. In February of 2014, his remarkable talent was once again acknowledged by Dean of Composition Department, Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Handpicked as top-notch trainee, he was anticipated to officially sit for the national entrance exam for enrolling only two composition majors under 14 years old by Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 2015.
