“After a racing car enters the pit, it takes only 7 seconds for all 21 staff to refuel, clear the air inlet port and send the car back to the circuit. Is it also possible that these skilled operation and compatible coordination, being achieved by us in the process of medical treatment? Are there some details to be improved? ” During the period of greeting the World Expo, the medical staff of the CWI International Peace Maternity and Child Health Hospital (the Health Hospital) had a heated discussion from top to bottom on “An Inspiration from the FIA Formula One World Championship”.

　　A Heated Discussion Arising from an Article

　　Soon after Spring Festival, every mid-level leaders of the Health Hospital received an email with the title of “An Inspiration from the FIA Formula One World Championship”. The article in the email tells about a hospital in England. While summarizing the surgery process, they found that usually a failed surgery was not the technical problem of the surgeon, and the incongruity of the team was the reason of a series of errors. Later, the doctors were inspired by a team manager of Formula One. With the reference of the mode of Formula One Pits, they designed a set of rules and required the medical staff strictly follow those rules in the process of patient transfer.

　　The article also inspired the medical staff of the Health Hospital. The Party and government administration workers of the Health Hospital, on the basis of the ongoing “Three Enhanced” activity of “Enhance the Qualities of Staff, Enhance the Awareness of Responsibility and Enhance the Awareness of Management”, were the first batch to launch a heated discussion among the mid-level leaders. In less than a week’s time, Shu Min, Secretary of the Party Committee and Executive Dean of the Health Hospital, received more than 30 review articles. A department director even said that during the major rescue and medical treatments stage in recent years, although the hospital had gradually established the process of team cooperation, compared with the work in the Formula One Pits which emphasizes the accuracy to every second, there is still some room of improvement and in particular some details need to be perfected.

　　Pursuing Medical Process of Higher Efficiency

　　It is reported that the Health Hospital has started the investigation about the medical process with emphasis, such as the check of operating room equipments, the presence of the anesthetist and the take-over of ward after the surgery. What’s more, the operation of the elevator is tested accurately. Every step in the process, the time each step needs and the link that need to be subdivided, the list goes on. The department doing the investigation analyzed one by one on the basis of the detailed records.

　　One medical staff participating in the investigation said, “We will pay attention to every detail and try the best to save every second. We will not only treat the patient in a more timely and thoughtful manner, but also make full use of the medical resources in the Health Hospital.”

　　Zhang Ningjuan, Chairwoman of the Trade Union, indicated that currently the learning of “The Inspiration from the FIA Formula One World Championship” has been expanded to the 55 groups of the Health Hospital. On the one hand, the learning will strengthen the team spirit education to the doctors, nurses and the logistical personnel. On the other hand, it will improve the relevant rules and regulations, carry out the corresponding simulation training and constantly enhance the medical staff’s awareness of accurate health care and team cooperation spirit.
